Own brand bikes - the b'Twin

Decathlon are well known for stocking a range of cost effective sporting goods and that includes bikes for mtb and road use.

Heres a review of the Sport 2, which is going to be used amongst other things for a charity ride from John O Groats to Lands End. So it will certainly be put through its paces.

A group of riders who you can read about here: Motions11.com will be making the journey and of course donations will be welcome ! Donations page.

Btwin Sport 2 race bike bargain or compromise on quality ?

I originally went into Decathalon to try a small frame size as I am only 5"2 and no cycle shops seem to keep stock of 48" frame. I had no intention of actually buying a bike from there although they are good for accessories I wasn't sure how good the bikes were.

As a cycling novice I had been told to look out for Carbon forks and rear stays and Shimano gears and brakes. This bike had everything I needed and what's more it had been reduced from £500 to £290. I was looking at a starting price of about £700 everywhere else I looked for Specialized and Trek bikes. I wondered what the catch was as it was too good to be true...but there was no catch, Btwin is apparently better well known in France and as Decathalon buy in bulk they can get excellent prices.

I cycle 13 miles to work on it about 3 times a week and regularly do 100 miles plus rides at the weekends in training for my cycle from John O Groats to Lands End. It's proved to be a really good bike, comfortable and fast.

It takes a while getting used to the drop down handlebars compared to my Hybrid, and at first it felt a bit twitchy but you get used to this quite quickly. If you're looking for a racer I would highly recommend paying a visit to Decathalon.
