Specialized Allez Bikes

If you look around the internet for reviews of the Specialized Allez, you will see that comfort is mentioned quite frequently as a particular benefit. So it is interesting to see this confirmed in the report below from a cyclist who used the bike in a long charity ride in 2009, for the Right to Play charity.
Here's the account of the ride:

I presumed cycling from Edinburgh to London over six days with Right To Play would be a fairly easy jaunt given my daily 10 mile commute. How wrong I proved to be. Having donned my padded shorts and stocked up with energy gels, I set off happily on my Specialized Allez not particularly perturbed by the growing clouds on the horizon towards the England/Scotland border. Forty miles in, I began to question my misplaced confidence as I battled horizontal rain and a head wind like an inversed Dyson. Sixty miles later, I crossed the finish line in Berwick upon Tweed; bedraggled but triumphant and not entirely sure how my legs would cope with the hundred miles a day average over England's green and pleasant lands. more...

The bike was great, and the slightly higher riding position of the Specialized Allez meant it was a bit more comfy throughout than more dipped racing bikes. I didn't have any mechanical mishaps at all, and even after 600 miles the gear change was smooth (I have Shimano Tiagra) and the Mavic Super Pro wheels still spinning well.

Five days later, I cycled in to London with 100 yellow-jerseyed friends for life. Having cycled 560 miles together and experienced the UK's highs and lows, we had finished one of the most rewarding challenges any of us had ever undertaken. Tired but brimming with pride, we congratulated one another over a well-earned beer and pledged to meet next year for a ride in Europe.

This summer, we are doing just that, by taking part in Right To Play's Brussels To London ride. It's set to be easier than last summer, with a more scenic route and an inspiring rendezvous with Team HTC-Columbia on the second stage of the Tour de France. If anyone is looking for a challenge, I can recommend this.

The 2010 ride was planned for around 300 miles and in the end 200 cyclists took part, raising over 200,000 Euros for the charity. You can find out more about them here: Right to Play Brussels to London
